Eduard Wehrmann (1875-1931) was born to Karl Wehrmann and Maria Koslowsky, who lived in Nikopol, Russia. In 1904 Eduard moved to Chortitza, where in 1907, he married Katharine Peters (1884-), who was born in Einlage, South Russia to Solomon Peters and Margaretha Harder. Eduard and Katharine had two children, Erna (1908-) and Eugenie (1912-). As a young family [before 1913] they moved to Omsk and later to Novo-Nikolayewsk where he was employed by the International Harvester Company as a sales representative. During the First World War he was a civilian prisoner of war in Tobolsk, Siberia. The Wehrmann family immigrated to Canada in 1923 where they made their home in Steinbach, St. Anne, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Eduard and his wife were members of the First Mennonite Church in Winnipeg.
This fonds consists of family photographs taken in Russia and some in Canada, and official family documents. Many of the photographs are good quality portraits of family and friends. There are also some photos from Slavogrod, Siberia, the graves of prisoners of war (1914-1918) in Tobolsk, Siberia, and a photo of workers at the Dneprostroy (Dneproges hydroelectric) Dam near Zaporozhye. The documents include baptismal records, life insurance policies, passports, membership certificate, police documents, and postponement of military responsibilities.
